Today’s post is about car culture. The exotic and luxury vehicle scene in Miami, Florida is well known. Just browsing the supercar hashtag on Instagram will back that up. Vice News has produced an fascinating video exploring the reality of luxury vehicle ownership and more specifically the rental business in Miami.

Exotic cars are beautiful pieces of art. These luxury vehicles can also take you wherever you want to go at 200MPH +. The people who can afford these supercars are often unique and interesting. The people that pretend to own them are even more interesting. The VICE video takes a look at some interesting (some might say sketchy) characters and businesses operating luxury vehicle rental businesses in Miami.

For many people in this Miami luxury vehicle scene, its not about the cars and a passion for motorsports. It’s about one thing. Money. They want to be seen as a celebrity and a person with wealth. It’s all about how other see them.

This is totally the wrong approach to cars. (in our opinion) Do car stuff because you love cars and the driving experience!

“The car business in general is a tough business. The car rental business, even more so. Anybody who finds out they can make money and drive a Ferrari, I mean, they’re diving in head first,” says Matt Cruz, owner of MVP Exotic Rentals, a legitimate luxury car rental business based in Miami.

But when everybody wants to be a celebrity, how to you tell the difference between faking it and making it? The game is finesse, and with the allure of getting behind the wheel of the world’s most expensive cars, who wouldn’t want to play?

In a world where likes and fame can be bought and the filtered facade of Instagram reigns supreme, VICE meets some of the legit — and the not-so-legit — players that cater luxury car rentals to the biggest rappers, athletes, and celebrities of the moment. VICE
