On October 18th, 2018 Ford announced an increase in production for their top of the line supercar, the new Ford GT! So If you have the extra cash laying around (roughly $450,000) it’s your lucky day! You can now apply to become an owner. Applications can be submitted November 8 through December 8, 2018.

Applying To Own A New Ford GT

If you don’t own a Ford or Lincoln, your chances are pretty slim. Ford is pretty selective. It helps to be a public influencer of some sort. Ford also has rules for new owners to follow. Rules like agreeing to not sell the car for at least 2 years. And Ford isn’t afraid to enforce their agreements. Ford reportedly sued John Cena for selling his new Ford GT before the 2 years were up.

The Ford GT is a tribute to the original Ford GT40 race car built for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The GT40 won four times from 1966-1969. The GT was first brought back for a limited run in 2005 to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of Ford’s founding (1903-2003).  The new Ford GT began production again in 2017.

Ford announced today that it is increasing production of its GT supercarand will reopen applications next month. This is the second time that the company has done so: The original plan was to build 500 GTs over two years—250 per year—but in 2016, the automaker announced that it would build 500 more GTs through 2020.

Now, Ford has said that it will build another 350 cars through 2022, for a total of 1350 GTs. That would make GT production last about six years, which is the typical life cycle for a new car these days. The new owners will be able to order the 2019 GT Heritage Edition, which was revealed earlier this year and is finished in the classic orange-and-blue Gulf racing livery. Aside from that new special edition, it seems that nothing else has changed with the GT, although we can expect a new Heritage Edition model each year of the extended run (Ford has released a new one every year of GT production).
